I'm sorry that I don't have any photos available from Monday's excursion to Père Lachaise cemetery and the Buttes Chaumont park.On Tuesday we went first to the Arc de Triomphe. Most people don't know that you can climb to the top for a magnificent view of the city. After 300-something steps, the rooftop terrace is a welcome sight. Streets converge from all directions, giving vistas in all directions. Of course the views of the Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower are among the most interesting.
We then walked the full length of the famous avenue, pausing at a Paul sandwich shop to buy sandwiches for a picnic. The Parc Marigny was a perfect place to eat and rest our weary legs before resuming the walk.
We stopped in the Place de la Concorde for a brief presentation on the Obelisk of Luxor, after which we walked the length of the Tuileries Gardens. After learning about the Arc du Caroussel, we walked to Place Vendôme, the richest square in Paris. We then walked through pleasant streets to the Bâteaux Mouches pier.
It started to rain just as we boarded the boat, but after a couple of minutes the rain stopped and the skies cleared. We had beautiful sunshine for the duration of the cruise.
Today we will tour the Opéra Garnier. Tomorrow is our free day, and everyone is making their plans. So many things to see and do....
